Shayne Serrano knew very early on that architecture was the profession he would pursue in higher education. As an undergraduate student, he was tested beyond his limits and grew an undeniable appreciation for the meticulously systematic, complex, and innovative task of designing a building/landscape. He believes that architecture has the power to solve some of the world’s most consequential matters and that an architect’s responsibilities are derived from the three pillars of sustainability.

Shayne, a 2018 graduate of the New York City College of Technology (CUNY), earned a Bachelor of Technology in Architecture and is proud of his summa cum laude status. During his distinguished academic career at City Tech, Shane has been honored by receiving multiple Presidential Scholarships from the College and was presented with the City Tech Alumni Association Achievement Award in 2017.

In the spring of 2018, Shayne’s Urban Design Studio presented him with the opportunity to work on a community service project that set out to restore the neighborhood of Brownsville, Brooklyn. A community plagued by violence, poverty, and severe health issues; his task was to work in conjunction with his school’s nursing department to resolve these matters by designing a community center for health and wellness. His class then presented their designs at Brooklyn Borough Hall to their colleagues in the nursing department, professors, investors, and local politicians in hopes of sparking an era of change for Brownsville.

Shayne is humbled by his experience at City Tech, and forever grateful to the countless professors that have supported him throughout his academic career. Outside of the classroom, his interest in film-making, creative writing, fashion, and fitness have brought him much enjoyment. He has created two short films and hopes to someday integrate film into his architectural career. He is on course to pursue a Master of Architecture degree at the Spitzer School of Architecture at City College.
