2017 Sean F. Mellon Scholarship

 

Congratulations to Meghna Majethiya, 2017 Scholarship Recipient, who was honored with the award at the annual Scholarship Dinner on November 7th, 2017 at the Yale Club in New York City.

Meghna Majethiya is a second-year Master of Architecture student at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. She has steered her Master’s degree towards building performance, which would help her achieve her goal of becoming an environmentally sensitive designer.

Meghna is an aspiring architect from India who believes that hard work and perseverance are the keys to success. Since childhood she has expressed her creativity through various art forms such as dance, sketching, and painting; architecture is another means of doing so. She enjoys taking ballroom dancing classes at the University as a hobby. Her peers admire her for being able t find a balance between academics, her on-campus job, and dance lessons. They attest that her attention to detail and her active effort in delivering her best work maker her a great team member.

During her undergraduate studies in India, she conducted research in the field of universal design and also won a number of design competitions and student awards. She attended classes at Ryerson University in Toronto as a foreign exchange student for a semester. She has gained work experience through and internship at Fourth Dimension Architects Pvt. Ltd., freelance interior design projects, and working at her father’s real estate company.

Meghna feels that she has been blessed with excellent professors who have helped shape her future as an architect. She believes that her experience at the University of Illinois has developed her ability to collaborate well with others, her leadership and communication skills her willingness to learn from criticism, and her professionalism. She and her studio partner Wei Lin won third place at the ASCA AISC Steel Design Competition this year. Meghna strongly believes that architects have a great social and moral responsibility, and she aspires to crate a better living environment for people around the world.
